**The Job**
Teach English online
You will tutor Chinese kids online in English. The lessons are prepared for you and it's all done through a browser based virtual classroom. You can use a PC or Mac. They pay by international wire transfer or ACH direct deposit if you have an American bank account. You are considered an independent contractor and they don't deduct any taxes. You can open as few or as many classes as you want, and change it each week if you want.
They require:
- native English speaker from North America
- bachelor's degree
- 1 year teaching experience (this requirement is the easiest to meet. Any experience dealing with kids - volunteering, tutoring at school, home schooling your own kids, etc - is enough).
**The pay**
There are 4 components:
1) Base pay: 7-9 USD per 25 minute class. This is determined in the initial interview but you can renegotiate every 6 months (each contract is 6 months but they pretty much always renew). My tip: ask for more in the interview, don't just let them offer you $7.
2) Participation incentive: you get $1 automatically for each class you've showed up for. If you have a teacher no-show (don't attend class or don't notify at least 2 hours in advance that you can't make it), they deduct $10 from your participation incentive.
3) Finished class incentive: If you teach 35 classes in a month you get $0.50/class taught. If 45 or more, you get $1.
4) Short notice: if you get a class booked within 24 hours of when it's supposed to start, you get $2 for that class.
You will always get the base rate and the participation incentive (minus any teacher no-shows) so you will make at least $8/class or $16/hour. They also have monthly incentives that you may or may not benefit from, and earn anywhere from $10-$100 per month.
